In today’s generation, societal conditions and unpredictable phenomenon have been occurring. Climate change is one of these exceptional occurrences. There is a widespread effect of climate change here, or outside the Philippines and it is very evident by how people experience these adverse effects on a daily basis. Climate change is fueling extreme weather events that vulnerable nations like Philippines- a country that is least responsible for the climate crisis. It is facing the brunt of extreme weather events in the form of ferocious super typhoons or severe droughts.
In order to address such condition, a collaborative effort from the government and the people is needed. The Philippine government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development and other agencies, joined hand in hand to take action which will significantly contribute to the mitigation and adaptation of climate change.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Risk Resiliency Program thru Cash-for-work on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation provides a short term intervention which will give these affected families and individuals a temporary employment. These identified beneficiaries of the cash-for-work will undertake 10 days of working and each individual will receive a total amount of Php 2,970.00 pesos.
